James Doyle
Quantity Surveyor
How long have you been in the construction industry?
I have been in the industry 11 years. This includes both hands on the tools and now as a Quantity Surveyor.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy reviewing designs to obtain a better understanding of the project at hand, to know it inside and out. Then where possible review and put forward items of value engineering to achieve an equal or higher quality product at a reduced cost, enabling the project to be completed within budget and in accordance with the Clients’ requirements.
Career highlight or project that you are most proud of?
I won the Plymouth City College, Higher Apprentice of the Year in 2023, I felt very honoured to be presented with this award. This was due to my Distinction grade in the Higher National Certificate in Construction.
What is your passion outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m kept busy with three cats, two dogs, and a young child who somehow has more energy than all of them combined. My wife and I are basically running a mini zoo. I’m also studying for a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying with UCEM because I like to be kept on my toes. When things calm down, I enjoy a laugh, a decent drink, a pub quiz (where I’m more about raising the bar bill than answering questions), and try to get some travel in whenever I can.
