How long have you been in the construction industry?

After working for Royal Mail for 15 years, I moved into the construction industry full time in 2020, having previously worked on smaller projects alongside my former role. Over the past few years I've gained valuable experience working closely with designers and senior management across a variety of projects. I continue to develop my skills and knowledge in my current role as assistant site manager at Fox Construction.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role is the variety each day brings. I genuinely enjoy coming to work because there is always a new challenge to overcome. I pride myself on being organised and bringing structure to the working day, while also building strong relationships with colleagues and subcontractors to achieve the best possible outcome on every project. Although my role involves coordination and planning, I also enjoy being hands on and supporting the team on site wherever required.

Career highlight or project that you are most proud of?

One particularly challenging project I worked on involved creating a radio recording studio within a listed building, which required a high level of coordination and attention to detail. Another career highlight was being involved in a £1 million refurbishment project with extremely restrictive access. Delivering 400kg glass panels for the sliding doors to site with a creek on one side and a lane only wide enough for a van on the other was a unique logistical challenge. The project required close communication with the local community to minimise disruption while still meeting the client's high standards and expectations. It was a demanding but highly rewarding experience.

What is your passion outside of work?

Outside of work my two children are my biggest priority and certainly keep me busy. I'm also passionate about running and have completed the London marathon twice. I enjoy staying active with the occasional game of rugby, getting outdoors for walks and discovering new craft beers whenever I can.
